This school year, watch your curriculum come ALIVE as your students travel electronically with our team to the Amazon Rain Forest and interact with students who live there! The project is aligned with EdStep's Global Competence Matrix* (see below) and includes curriculum connections in Science, Technology, Social Studies, Math, Language Arts/Poetry, Art, Music and Spanish.

PROGRAM TIMETABLE This year, the Amazon Rain Forest School (ARFS) Project will take place from February 1st - March 30th, 2012. Teachers who are not completing their Amazon study during the program dates may save program content for future use.
REGISTRATION Registration is open NOW through January 15th, 2012. Please register early to ensure your participation and to allow time to prepare for project exchanges.

GLOBAL COMPETENCE MATRIX This year, the four program options are aligned with EdStep's Global Competence Matrix (GEM), as follows (see chart above for details and fees): Level 1/Forest Floor - Electronic travel [GEM skill - Investigating the World] Level 2/Understory - Exploring the curriculum with Amazon peers and experts [GEM skill - Recognizing Perspectives] Level 3/Canopy - Teaming up with Amazon students to make a global difference [GEM skill - Taking Action]. Level 4/Emergent Layer - Skyping with Amazon students and Amazon experts [GEM skill - Communicating Ideas]
ONEWORLD CLASSROOMS' TRAVELING TEAM OF EDUCATORS The program coincides with OneWorld Classrooms staff and volunteers traveling to visit Amazon Rain Forest schools in February and March, 2012. The traveling team of educators includes: OneWorld Classrooms Director, resident poet and educator, Paul Hurteau (who lived and taught in the Ecuadorian Amazon for one year and has since traveled to the region to visit schools eleven times); muralist and art teacher, Liza Mills, who has organized school murals at her school in NY and partner schools in Ecuador and Belize; former Peace Corps volunteers who taught in Amazon schools, Lindsay Walker and Lydia Montes; videographer Ian Bennett; and 10 other teachers, volunteers and students. Paul will lead volunteers on trips to Amazon schools near Puyo and Tena, Ecuador.
